The commercially exploited species in the Baltic
fisheries are mainly marine fish, i.e. cod (Gadus morhua
L.), the clupeids, sprat (Sprattus sprattus L.)
and herring (Clupea harengus L.) the flatfish,
flounder (Platichthys flesus L.), plaice (Pleuronectes
platessa L.), turbot (Psetta maxima L.),
brill (Scophthalmus rhombus L.) and dab (Limanda
limanda L.). Other important target species are the Atlantic
salmon (Salmo salar L.), and sea trout (Salmo
trutta L.), pike-perch ( Stizostedion lucioperca)
and whitefish (Coregonus lavaretus) as well as eel
(Anguilla anguilla), bream (Abramis brama),
perch (Perca fluviatilis) and pike (Esox lucius).
